Filmmaker, Ashley Fester was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta where she started her education as an English major with a minor in World Religion at Concordia College. The following year she moved to Montreal where she began her Film Studies education at Concordia University.
After moving to Vancouver, “Hollywood North”, she acquired the skill-set to coordinate multi-million dollar indie and studio features, television shows and a reality series.
Ashley has written, directed and produced a collection of short films taking home ‘Best Story’ and ‘Audience Choice’ for Erato, an enchanting story of a composer’s search for inspiration. Her most recent triumphs are; The Space Between, a “pious account of compassion and persistence”, (CBC Radio One) and Kaufman’s Care resulting in the ‘Best Actor’ award for six year old newcomer, Leah Roberts, awarded by Paramount.
Fester formed her own independent production company, Breed Productions to produce, Celluloid Horror and Reel 33 Releasing to distribute it. Celluloid portrays “horror critic/enthusiast and programmer Kier-La Janisse; the founder of CineMuerte, Canada’s first and only International Horror Film Festival.
Simultaneously, Ashley shot and directed two other enticing documentaries, Doyle & Hill: The Hetero’s Guide to Being a Dyke and Chosen, which follows musician Eric Solomon’s life-long goal of becoming the next pop icon.
Most recently, Fester was asked to co-direct Spectre, with actor/writer Stefan Arngrim (Fear No Evil, Class 1984), a theatrical debut for both.
Fester created a new production & post production company in November of 2008 called, Record it. The agenda, to encourage regular people to take note of their own everyday lives, record their own once-in-a-lifetime events professionally, for the purpose of passing it onto the next generation.
